CSX data breach exposes employee information

Posted on November 3, 2026 by Dissent

Jack Krumm reports:

We’re learning more about a major data privacy breach and the tens of thousands of people nationwide who could be affected.

CSX, one of the country’s largest transportation companies, experienced a cybersecurity attack that gave unauthorized parties access to information, including employee data such as Social Security numbers.

The company says the incident happened between May 29 and June 9, when it became aware of the attack.

Since then, the freight company said it has mailed notification letters to about 40,000 current and former employees across the country. CSX has not yet confirmed how many of those notified live in Ohio.
